Who we are ?

Droga a Ty (Drug and You -DaY), a non-profit NGO, was founded in February, 1995, to address the need for citizen participation in drug prevention activities as the Slovak Republic moves toward a democratic, market-based economy. Due to legislation restrictions in Slovakia DaY was re-established as a civic association (community based organization) in August 1997. Its goal is the drug prevention especially with young people and inter-personal and inter-ethnic tolerance as well.

Our mission :

Using all communication channels for dissemination of facts that would help young people exposed to drug offer in right decision. Our key messages are:

• Drugs have been with us through the ages; they are just one of nature’s traps. Behind this world-wide scourge are people who learned they could make a fortune dealing drugs, similar to dealing weapons. Take care not to be trapped. Don’t be so stupid as to let others prosper from your destruction!
• Drug addicts are victims. They are ill people who deserve our respect and help. Keep in mind that former addicts are among those most devoted to helping others.
• It isn’t just the professionals, e.g., doctors, police, who can help. There is surely one way YOU can help too. Minor actions performed by millions make history.

• Drug prevention by PC  programs - development of Slovak version of 6 US interactive programs for free distribution
• "Dope is Rubbish!" - express your opinion by Tshirt - production of Tshirts with graphics and bilingual slogan

• "About Drugs and People on Internet" - joint project with Center for Treatment of Drug Dependncies Bratislava
• Library corner with drug literature (Library Ružinov, Bratislava, Bachova 7)

Open projects and ideas

• „American and Slovak Drug Wars“ - idea of an English-Slovak book and audiotape with oral stories from the "drug war trenches" in USA and Slovakia, also for spoken language studies
